When I decided to take my little boy swimming for the first time he was about two and a half months old. Of course with babies sunscreen is a must because of their sensitive skin. I chose to use Coppertone's Water Babies (will post on this product later) to protect my son's delicate skin. I do not know if anyone has ever noticed or not but sunscreens say on the bottle that they aren't recommended for anyone under 6 months of age. Well, I did some soul searching, talked to some people who I trust that have had babies, and decided to give it a try. He did wonderful, with both the sunscreen and being in the water for the first time. He lasted twenty minutes then had to go nap, after his nap I brought him back out again to see how he would do after some sleep, and he played for an hour!
So if you are like me and are trying to make the choice to swim or not to swim, I would say it is probably okay to take your baby swimming if they are healthy. Then again I am not a doctor so if you feel insecure about it, you should probably call your child's pediatrician.
